So you want to create Web Pages

Hi, my name is Spinner. I'm usually at home in my own home web page at SpiderWeb LLC but Rayzer invited me over to help show you how to spin your own web pages. What do I do at Spiderweb LCC? well I'm the company's logo. It's a proud thing to be a logo. Means I'm unique, and Alexa Conway, that's my owner, wants me to stay that way. She said I could come help you spin your web pages, but she doesn't want me to stray too far from home. If you don't know what I mean, maybe you should look at the page on computer citizenship.

Before we start, we'll need the right tools. If you are in Mrs. Hood's class, you already have what you need, either at home on your computer or in your classroom.

So what will we need? Let's make a list:
Of course, we'll need a computer, and we have plenty of those now.
We'll need a text editor, which is what the program Pfe32 on your computer is.
Of course we'll need a web browser to see the web pages we create. You already have one since that is what you are using to view this web page.
We may need a graphics program (we just happen to have Paint Shop Pro, also known as Psp) to create fancy graphics.
We may also need a scanner (there's one in your classroom) to put pictures into your computer.
We'll need a place we can put your home pages, which is why we have folders for you in a computer called pixel.cs.vt.edu in the Virginia Tech Computer Science Department.
We'll need a program, called ftp in your Network folder, that will take the web pages from your computer and transmit it through the Internet to the pixel computer.
And most important of all, we need creativity and the desire to have fun.

So if we have all that, especially the creativity and the desire to have fun, then we can begin. We'll take this creation of a home page in stages. I tend to think better and remember more if I break down a complex process into smaller steps. Don't you? Here are the steps:
Step 1 Create a HTML file.

Step 2 Create a graphics file with Paint Shop Pro.

Step 3 Put graphics in your HTML file.

Step 4 Send your HTML file and graphics to your folder on pixel.

Step 5 View the HTML file with Internet Explorer.

If you want other Internet references on HTML authoring, then try the sites listed at the reference page.
